Hydrants Visual Reference Guide
Overview
This guide explains the visual indicators and color coding used throughout the EPR FireWorks Hydrants module. EPR FireWorks uses colors and icons to show hydrant flow capacity and maintenance status for rapid assessment during emergency response planning and hydrant testing operations.
NFPA 291 Hydrant Color Coding
EPR FireWorks uses NFPA 291 color coding to indicate hydrant flow capacity. These colors appear consistently across all hydrant interfaces and map displays.
Class AA Hydrants
Flow capacity: 1,500 GPM or greater
Application: Large incidents, industrial and commercial fires
Class A Hydrants
Flow capacity: 1,000 to 1,499 GPM
Application: Most fire operations, standard municipal systems
Class B Hydrants
Flow capacity: 500 to 999 GPM
Application: Residential areas, moderate water supply
Class C Hydrants
Flow capacity: Less than 500 GPM
Application: Limited water supply, may require multiple sources
Dry Hydrants
Purpose: Alternative water source for drafting operations
Application: Requires tanker/tender or portable pump operations
Maintenance Status Indicators
Completed Activities: Checkboxes in EPR FireWorks indicate completed maintenance activities.
Connection Types: Standard tracking includes 2.5-inch and 5-inch connections. Departments may configure tracking for 4.5-inch connections.
Map Display Features
Color-Coded Markers: Hydrant markers on EPR FireWorks maps use NFPA 291 colors to indicate flow capacity for rapid visual assessment.
Geographic Context: Map display provides a territorial overview for route planning and resource allocation during emergency response operations.
